On Saturday & Sunday – November 22nd & 23rd, 2014 from 11am to 4pm you will be treated to complimentary wine tasting, great food and all the privileges of being a member of all participating wineries. It is a great way to enjoy beautiful west Sonoma County and do some holiday shopping at the same time.



There is no charge for this fabulous event. It is our way of thanking you for your loyalty throughout the year. You are welcome to bring up to six guests to enjoy the same privileges for the day.

My third stop was Hanna Winery’s Russian River Valley tasting room. Hanna maybe better noted for their majestic location in the Alexander Valley, but this tasting room sits amidst Hanna’s original “home ranch” chardonnay and pinot noir vineyards.



Dr. Elias Hanna founded this winery in 1985, but it has been run for the past 20 years by his daughter, Christine. She embodies the Russian River Valley love of wine paired with food and has written “The Winemaker Cooks.” To help you understand this passion, Hanna offers an array of wine and food experiences in both of their tasting rooms.



Christine Hanna with winemaker, Jeff Hinchliffe, are known for their Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as their Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. They make a number of other varietals as well, but are announcing this week the release of their 2012 Hanna Malbec from Alexander Valley which will be a first for them.



Patrick Shockey generously shared with me his 13 years of experience in Hanna’s wines, including his current favorite a 2007 Merlot which is only available to visitors at the winery – another good reason for a road trip! Patrick says to pair this wine with another local favorite Cowgirl Creamery’s Red Hawk cheese. Tasting room hours are daily 10am-4pm

2012 Russian River Chardonnay Visits Yosemite

Our 2012 Russian River Valley Chardonnay has been traveling! The luscious flavors of baked apple and Crème Brule paired perfectly with the crisp Yosemite air and serene mountain views. Maybe we will open a Bismark Zinfandel to have with S’mores! It will taste delicious with the chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows.



Once our wines get the traveling bug there is no stopping them. Where else will we see HANNA?

North Coast Wine Challege Winner

We won a gold! HANNA’s 2012 Sauvignon Blanc received a gold in the Press Democrat’s North Coast Wine Challenge. Described as being a “classic cool climate wine” and a “real crowd pleaser” our 2012 Sauvignon Blanc was a hit, receiving 93 points. Thank you to the judges, we could not be more proud.

April Wine Special…Two Ranch Red!  20% for Non Wine Club; 30% for Wine Club

 
Our Two Ranch Red is a beautiful blend of eleven HANNA and Bismark varietals.  It is plum in color with rich aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, carob, Santa Rosa plum and boysenberry.  The rich aroma gives way to flavors reminiscent of sandalwood, Bing cherry, mulberry, sweet oak and roasted quinoa.  This wine is plush, with moderate tannins and  a polished finish.  It is the perfect wine for any occasion, whether it’s a dinner party or weekday pizza night.  Two Ranch Red will be a hit!

Chardonnay Verasion

Our Hanna Chardonnay has begun to ripen. The reward for critters who would be eating the soon to be ripe fruit, is sugar.  The allure is aroma, which is developing now behind a still searing acidity  The crop is good, and the weather has been great so far.  We like to pick this block on the ripe side.  It will be on the vine another two months before reaching perfect maturity.

  

Nitrogen Dosing

Nitrogen Dosing: No, we assure you, it's quite legal, and very beneficial to the wine ;) Just before the screwcap is applied a drop of liquid nitrogen is dosed onto the surface of the wine. As the nitrogen expands (seen here) it displaces the oxygen and keeps our Sauv Blanc youthful and lively. Ever notice a slight "pssss" when you open our SB? It's the nitrogen escaping when you break the seal.
