Free Live Music at HANNA from 11:30-3:30 September 28th

Harvest is in full swing but we are taking a small break for wine and live music!  Join us at our Alexander Valley tasting room for a free Adam Lieb concert.  Come soak up the sun and let us pour you our newly released wine, including the 2012 Russian River Valley Chardonnay, 2012 Russian River Pinot Noir or 2012 Bismark Mountain Zinfandel.

Ferment, Rinse & Repeat

At 6:30 this morning, tank T5 was filled with 10 tons of fermenting HANNA Cabernet from our Red Ranch block 11. By 9:30, it had been drained, shoveled, cleaned, and refilled with 10 tons of block 4 Cab. In six short days, make that VERY LONG days, the tank will be ready to fill again. Pictured here: 1.Chilo stacks bins of just-picked Cab. 2. Isaac and Fernando draining T5 (only looking a little exhausted). 3. Young Cab wine draining into the cart. This will be the “free run” wine. 4. The must left behind after the free run has been drained. 5. Beginning to shovel must into a bin. 6. Fernando taking a break to adjust his safety harness. 7. Rosso's Dinner, Live Music, HANNA Wine and an Alexander Valley Sunset

"The Tasting Panel" Interviews Christine Hanna (April 2013 Iss.)

“Catching Up with Christine Hanna” with The Tasting Panel



The Tasting Panel’s April 2013 issue offers an in-depth look at a “Sonoma Vintner and Super Mom [who] Hits Her Stride”, our very own Christine Hanna.



The article explores the growth of HANNA Winery under the business leadership of Chris, who developed our Sauvignon Blanc, as well as expanding HANNA vineyards. Currently, HANNA Winey is in full production at four estate vineyards located in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Mt. Veeder.



Chris now sees the winery as being in “refinement mode”. Hanna comments, “In many ways I have come into my own as a businesswoman and a mother.” This is reflected through her work with our winemakers or developing relationships with distributors. The reward for all this hard work can be found in a bottle of HANNA wine.



HANNA 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley, is described as being “[our] best release ever” with “…lime zest and peach…the edginess is held in check by a jasmine, heather and lilac trio and bundled by incense and spice.” ($19)



HANNA 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, “hypnotizes with a fragrance of spiced cinnamon and dried cherries” and receives an “A-plus for food pairing”. The superb quality of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is achieved through canopy management or picking the grapes earlier, enabling flavor quality and lower alcohol. ($40)



HANNA 2010 Bismark Mountain Vineyard Zinfandel, Mt. Veeder Vineyard, was grown at an elevation of 1,400 to 1,600 feet, the highest elevation vineyard in Sonoma. It is described as not being “jammy or port-like” instead it is “structured, with natural acidity, overt fruit and amazingly juicy.” ($56)

Our Two Ranch Red is a beautiful blend of eleven HANNA and Bismark varietals.  It is plum in color with rich aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, carob, Santa Rosa plum and boysenberry.  The rich aroma gives way to flavors reminiscent of sandalwood, Bing cherry, mulberry, sweet oak and roasted quinoa.  This wine is plush, with moderate tannins and  a polished finish.  It is the perfect wine for any occasion, whether it’s a dinner party or weekday pizza night.  Two Ranch Red will be a hit!

Winemaking Math

After a gazillion pump-overs this past week, we drained and pressed six Cab tanks today, creating eight new Cab lots. Doesn't add up you say? Let me clarify: 2 obsessive winemakers + 96,000 lbs of fermenting Cab must = 7 exhausted cellar workers + 1 frenzied lab tech + 1 harried production asst + 4 "Free Run" Cab tanks + 2 "Low Press" Cab tanks + 2 "High Press" Cab tanks. Translation for the non-mathematically gifted: 8,500 gallons of incredible HANNA 2012 Cab!
