Nitrogen Dosing

Nitrogen Dosing: No, we assure you, it's quite legal, and very beneficial to the wine ;) Just before the screwcap is applied a drop of liquid nitrogen is dosed onto the surface of the wine. As the nitrogen expands (seen here) it displaces the oxygen and keeps our Sauv Blanc youthful and lively. Ever notice a slight "pssss" when you open our SB? It's the nitrogen escaping when you break the seal.

Pinot Promise

Just as we're preparing to bottle the luscious 2011 Pinot Noirs, we're already looking forward to the 2012 Pinot harvest. After a slow start to the growing season, late Spring weather has been warm and beautiful and the Pinot vines are happy; therefore, so are we!

Photos 1 & 2: Granted, they're a year older, but the Home Ranch block 1 Pinot Noir is looking full and lush compared to last year's soggy vines. With last year's bloom-time rain, the Pinot crop was small but tasty. This year we're looking forward to more of a good thing!

Photo 3: HANNA Home Ranch Pinot soaking up the mid-June sun.

Hanna Red Ranch Block 5 in bloom

Just below the new raised bed garden at our Alexander Valley Red Ranch is block 5 which is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6. This clone is uber tasty but incredibly low yielding. It is not widely planted because of this fact. This is a photo of a block 5 cluster in bloom that I took last week from a rattlesnake's perspective.
