2014 HANNA Rose Harvest

Harvest began today, on August 6, 2014! This technique results in both delicious Rose and later- awesome Pinot Noir.

We remove crowded clusters, clusters on short shoots and laggard fruit. Green fruit is left on the ground. The colored fruit contributes finesse to our Rose.

Our Pinot Noir is the penultimate beneficiary of this practice. HANNA customers are the ultimate beneficiary!

We’re DONE!!! With Sauvignon Blanc at least…

This year we harvested a record 448 tons of Sauvignon Blanc! The final 51 tons were harvested last night and pressed today. There’s no time to celebrate, however, tomorrow we’re harvesting more Red Ranch Cab Sauv and pressing Bismark Cab Franc.

Ferment, Rinse & Repeat

At 6:30 this morning, tank T5 was filled with 10 tons of fermenting HANNA Cabernet from our Red Ranch block 11. By 9:30, it had been drained, shoveled, cleaned, and refilled with 10 tons of block 4 Cab. In six short days, make that VERY LONG days, the tank will be ready to fill again. Pictured here: 1.Chilo stacks bins of just-picked Cab. 2. Isaac and Fernando draining T5 (only looking a little exhausted). 3. Young Cab wine draining into the cart. This will be the “free run” wine. 4. The must left behind after the free run has been drained. 5. Beginning to shovel must into a bin. 6. Fernando taking a break to adjust his safety harness. 7. Dumping a bin of must into the press. 8. Pressing the must; we keep the “free run” and the “press wine” separate. 9. Refilling the tank with freshly picked grapes.

2013 Slusser Sauvignon Blanc Has Arrived!!

We harvested 30 tons of Slusser Sauvignon Blanc in the pre-dawn hours, and should finish pressing about twilight. In the heat of the day dry ice is added to the press pan to keep the juice cool and shaded from the sun.

Good Morning from the Russian River Valley!

SRJC’s Shone Farm Sauvignon Blanc is new to HANNA’s Sauvignon Blanc program. We harvested 40 tons of this immaculate organic fruit, and have high expectations for these grapes! Coming soon to a bottle near you...

Play time is over, time to get serious....Or, at least play with some SERIOUS TOYS!!!

Walsh Vineyard Management just delivered their Pellenc Harvester. We usually only see these at night, while they're in operation. Couldn't help sticking my head in and checking it out ;) Last year we tested the Pellenc in Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. Tomorrow, we'll trial it in our Pinot vineyard.

Agonizing Decision – Our dedication to making exceptional wine

Dropping fruit is routine here, but it becomes soooo much more painful when it’s within a few weeks of harvest. Never-the-less, we sent several crews through our vineyards this week, culling under-ripe and damaged fruit.
